    No Power (electrical) ?s

Hey all, I have some questions.

    I have an 06 186 with an 06 Merc 150

Went to the lake today and when I got there I had no power. At all. Anywhere. With the master and run key turned the gauges didnt illuminate at all, nor did the tilt at the motor work. Had it out last about two weeks ago and everything went fantastic.

The only new thing on the boat are the graphs. I had my mechanic install an HDS 9, 12, totalscan transducer, point one antenna and associated mounts. I called up the mechanic and he advised me that the way the graphs were installed, unless disconnected, they always draw a small amount of current and that could have drained my starter battery. So I pulled my starter battery and took it to the local NAPA. It measured 1 CCA and less than 3 volts so the battery was no good. The other two batteries are dated 3/17 and show full charge on the charger

So I bought a new duracell 1000MCA 800 CCA battery and installed it. Still not getting any power at all. Checked the fuse at the battery and that fuse was fine. Not sure what to check next. I'm sure this is probably a simple fix I'm overlooking, but anything electrical seems to be my achilles heel.

    Thank you all in advance.

You did turn on the key switch im sure?

    Battery hooked up correctly?

All the wires back on. New battery fully charged??

The point one will always be drawing power, Need to put a perko switch on for the electronics!!!

If the point1 is hooked to your NMEA2000 system I'd add it to an off switch also.
    I got nothin

No doubt the Point 1 drained your battery. Likely all it needed was charging. Any competent auto parts guy would know the battery has to be charged to do a load test. I'd find a new parts store because they screwed you, and consider a new mechanic because anyone who installs electronics should know a Point 1 needs to be on switched power.

I'd be guessing the current problem is a missing wire on the battery or a blown fuse under the cowling.

If you arc the wires putting the new battery in, check the fuses on the motor. I know you can shut the whole system down with a fuse on the Honda, don’t ask!!

Well the battery was a 6 year old battery so I figured I'd better be safe than sorry.

All wires on the battery are there. Made sure to double check when I removed it, 3 wires per terminal. Thin, thicker, and thickest. Is one of those perko switches hard to add?

As for fuses, I know the fuse panel is under the cowling, but I'm unsure where to start. Should I just start pulling them and checking them individually?

As to the motor, where are those fuses typically located?

Sorry for all the questions, all input appreciated.

That's the thing. Trolling motor still has power

Normally when I power in the boat the gauges will illuminate, smartcraft gauge will beep etc. Now none if that happens. I also do not have power back at the motor. The tilt trim does not work in the motor.

Trolling motor and the rest of the boat are entirely separate electrical systems.

The boat and the motor are separated also. You should have two keys or a separate power switch mine has two keys one for the motor and a master power key.

As soon as I get home tomorrow I'll check. Would that affect my console as well?

I think you may have nailed it. FOund a blown 20amp fuse in the fuse box on the right side of the motor. Heading to home depot after some errands. Hoping to have it back together in a couple hours to check it out.

Ok, bought a few new 20amp fuses. They blow immediately when placed. Could this be because of the point one drawing current?
