Not the service I was expecting from Ranger

My uncle has a Ranger, my dad has a Ranger. I've been fishing in them since I was very small. Finally ordered my own and just picked it up Friday (3 days ago) after waiting 13 weeks.
I expecting nothing but the best in quality and customer service from Ranger, and my dealer gave me that impression.

My dealer gave me the sense that he didn't have very good communication with Ranger regarding the status of the boat for about 2 weeks straight, as far as if it was getting close to being finished, getting shipped out, when it will arrive, and I was told on very short notice when the boat would arrive.

I ordered the boat with a custom Ranger boat cover. After waiting 12 weeks you don't expect the boat to show up missing the boat cover but it did. Dealer said that Ranger told him it was probably left at the plant and they will check on it. Three days later I haven't heard a word so I call Ranger myself and have someone check on it. A guy says he thinks it was probably left behind and says he will call me back later that day. He never calls so I call the next day (this morning). He tells me it was never made so they will now have to make one and he isn't sure how long it will take. I was planning on taking a week off work but may delay this due to not having the cover.

The boat also had a gash/scratch right on the side deep in the paint clear through the paint. The boat had huge metal shavings all in it, on the seats, in the compartments, and in all corners that could have easily and quickly been gotten up with a shop-vac, but I guess they leave that for their customers to take care of. Lastly, the water pressure gauge didn't work.

I'm sure I will eventually get this all taken care of and fixed, it's just a little disappointing you get the boat you have always wanted, brand new, and it seems like they rushed it out the door.

Not normal and I would find out who your regional rep is and get with them asap if your dealer is not getting thinks taken care of.

I honestly don't think it's the dealer. I called Ranger myself and they told me the boat cover was never made. That's not the dealer that's Ranger.

I was there the day the boat came off the truck with a gash in the paint, sharp metal shaving all inside the boat, and a water pressure gauge that didn't work. The boat was shipped that way. That again isn't the dealer that's Ranger.

Regardless who made the mess, I think the dealer still should've cleaned and prepped the boat prior to your picking it up. Sorry to hear of the issues you've had but as someone else mentioned, if your dealer cant get results...find out who your local Ranger Rep is for your area and give them a call.

I'd still expect my dealer to make it all right before I took delivery of the boat. The sold it as you ordered it. They should address each and every issue for you.

I worked at a dealer for 10 years and I can honestly say that they are the ones responsible for the final cleanup of your boat. Things happen like scratches and the cover missing. Its the dealers that are supposed to take care of that apon delivery to them and to you. obviously they would not be able to fix the scratch, or have a cover, or anything like that in a very short amount of time but they should have definitely caught it before you did. I spent many days inspecting boats that came off the truck damaged, missing standard components, filthy from road grime in the winter, wrong colors, wrong options. Its part of the game, but they were clean as can be and corrected as soon as possible. If you take your boat without getting your cover, or the gelcoat repair make sure its in writing on a shortage sheet from the dealer.

Dealer is responsible for prep, thats why you get charged for it. I never understood why people want to see the boat coming straight off the truck. Let the dealer do their work and call you when its ready so you dont have to see everything like you did. This is no different than a car, yu should see how they get delivered to the dealers.

I said I was there the day the boat came off the truck, I didn't say I saw the boat come off the truck.
The dealer said boat is here, give me 3 hours to look it over and get it ready. I'll call you later today when you need to come get it. I did exactly that, and got to the dealer and was given the boat in that condition.

Definitely the dealer. When I've ordered new trucks or cars, the dealership has spend several hours preparing the vehicle and all final prep is done by them.

Sorry for your issues but the shavings and such are why you pay dealer prep. They
should have vacuumed it and cleaned it and maybe even wash it. As far as the water
pressure gauge they will replace it. The cover is not acceptable IF it was ordered with
the boat. Good luck and enjoy your boat.

I must be missing something here. Why can't you go fishing without the boat cover?

when I got mine my dealer went over boat and I went over it and we agreed on them cleaning it again, they polished and waxed, vacuumed made it right. we put cover on to make sure it fit and it did. we water tested and engine dyno the motor. when done I didn't like the decal on rear of boat when the shipping cover rubbed on it (they had some in stock) they replaced and made sure it was done right. I had them pull wheels and check brake hose lines and the bolts for brakes, and they did. The air pressure and hubs to make sure they where not leaking. then installed wheels and lugnuts properly. They then spray waxed boat and it was hooked to my truck. Augusta Marine is very good people but they made sure it was right.

If you haven't already, you're going to get a survey in the mail from Ranger. I've had a couple of friends who have had dealer issues and have said nice things in the survey. When you get yours, don't be nice, tell 'em what you think!

There are great Ranger dealers out there—probably the vast majority. And for those of us lucky enough to work with the great dealers, there is no issue big or small that they won’t smooth out for us. For me, this is where buying a Ranger really differs from other large purchases. Top notch service before, during, and after the sale is a hallmark of long-time Ranger dealers. Absent that level of service, no way would I spend what a new (or lightly used) bass boat costs these days. I can fix quite a few things on a boat myself, and am not afraid to get my hands dirty, but what most helps me to sleep well at night is knowing that I have dependable backup—my dealer, Ranger Boats, and BRP—for the things I can’t or don’t want to work on myself.

Do you know if the surveys come from the dealer, or the factory? I bought my boat in April and never received one. My dealer would definitely NOT want me to fill out the survey. I called the regional rep and he made excuses for the dealer. In my opinion, ranger customer service is only as good as your dealer.

Wow....that's inexcuseable. When you are told they will check on it and call you back.....that is what you expect. Piss poor on Ranger's part. I think for the most part they have good people but I, too, have had issues with some "take it or leave it" attitude people.
