    Lifting bow

I need to lift the bow if my boat to re-weld the u shape metal that holds the roller. Came in a little hot last weekend and the welding has about 1/4 inch “rip” . I need to grind old weld off and bend bacon to shape and re-weld.

Any suggestions other then a jack with a v type base with lots lots lots of padding to protect hull? Is the bow area strong enough to be lifted(jacked up) to complete at least a few hours job? It’s a 179trx

    Thanks

If you jack it up under the bow, that's not a lot of stress on the hull since most of the weight is in the back. I've jacked up the back of my boat to repair bunks, with zero trouble. You won't have any problem. All I would watch is where the pivot point is. IE when you jack the front up, the boat has to pivot up in the rear. Since it won't bend, that means the point where the rear of the boat contacts the bunks is going to take a lot of weight. Most bunks are well supported around that point. But if you have bunks where the wood has rotted, that can produce enough force to break through the bunk which might cause damage.

Just reload the boat and stop 6" short of the bow roller, then go home and weld.

Or attach the stern to a tree and pull the trailer forward.

Do wet rocks/gravel mark your boat less than dry ones?
