    helix 7 power cord

Ordered a spare power cord to use so I can learn my unit inside my home. I orderd what I thought was the correct power cable but cant seem to get it to work. (PC 10) There is a slight difference between this cable and the one it came with as the original has a filter on it.

Is the lack of a filter whats causing it not to work?? I cant imagine thats the case. All the unit wants to do is flash on and off every few seconds.

    Thanks

Either power cord should work. What are you using as a power source?

I have a Helix 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2 and a Helix 12 CHIRP SI GPS on my desk powered via PC-10. I use the PC-11's on the boat.

I have a variable DC power supply capable of 24V 20A. When I used to do this with my Garmin I had to bump the volts up to 14 something to get it to work. That doesnt seem to work for the bird. Kinda scared to go much higher

Well I tried the unit hooked up to a boost box for jump starting cars and it works fine. Odd but im guessing the DC supply just isnt producing enough amps to fire the unit. Weird since it worked for the Garmin.

My guess is if I up the voltage it will eventually work... That scares me though.

If your power supply can support 20A, that is way enough to support the unit. You use a 3A fuse for the unit. The specs show 900 mA for the Helix 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2N.

If you can't support a 1A load, you have a connection problem.

Yes I agree something just doesn’t add up. This supply can easily support the current needs of the unit. The power supply is a very old unit so there could very well be internal connection issues. I need to eventually take it apart and inspect.
For now I guess the jump box will fly.
