Other than Aaron (badazztriton) on here, there are not many who fish the Shreveport pool. You can check with the ones on http://ultimatebass.com/ . The owner of that site lives in Shreveport area, as do many on the LA forums. You can ask Aaron, but I think he is too worried about the deer right now...lol

Not only that, there are numerous sand bars that have been created b/c the flooding. Some of the oxbows you can barely get in now. It's really sad, the Red River used to be one of the top 10 ranked fisheries in the US. I used to live in Bossier City when the Red was on fire & was fishing there every weekend, even watched Skeet Reese win the classic. I do know the US Army Core of Engineers had put in the rock jetties & there is a pretty heavy penalty for moving just one rock, don’t touch. I’ve been hoping they would come back to dredge & clean up, but it doesn’t look like that going to happen any time soon. Unless, big business moves there & needs waterway access down through pools 4 and 3.

I live up here in Shreveport and the floods as mentioned have destroyed the river system. It won't ever be the same. Most of the rocks that where good are now gone. The pile Brandon Palunick won his Federation del on is mia now. All the back water has never cleaned up from the floods. Usually 15-16lbs would get u a win here. Heck 11lbs won the other day out there. I can still go catch fish out there but I'm scared to death of running it. Just getting in and out of Port Lake is sketchy. Running into Whitehouse u will lose ur lower unit. Up where Skeet won is sandbars now even worse!! I haven't been to pool 4 in 5-6yrs so no report there. There is some cegation in pool 5 but not much. All the reeds washed away from flooding. I was disappointed last year out there and haven't been back. Matter fact I barely got in Ninock down by Lock!! The Army Core has pretty much blown funding for trying idc the rocks and things unless we get a new grant which no one sees will happen!

Unfortunately, IMO, this was an inevitable thing. I'm 57 yrs. old and I grew up fishing the Red River for catfish with my Papaw and Granny. We mostly fished at night and I can't tell you how many times we would run upon a sand bar out in the middle of the river. So, before the dams were put in, the shifting sand bars were a problem. Bennett Johnston sold the people of LA and the U.S. Senate bill of goods. I suspect that the reason there is no more funding for dredging the river for the sand bars as it was when the dams and revetments were put in, is because there is not enough ROI to justify it. We have to remember, it was not built for the bass fishermen. It was built for politics sake under the guise of business. The only businesses that have thrived because of the Red River is the casinos. PLEASE NOTE: These are my opinions and I do not have the evidence to back it up! But I believe it and if someone has any evidence to the contrary, I would like to see it.

Well said, preacher ed. Curious as to know, just how much money was brought in when the Classics came to town?

Coonnasty: 1st of all, thanks for being a part of the Cajun Navy. You guys ROCK! I don't have any idea of how much money the Classic brought in.

Gun Runner: unfortunately, you are correct. I think, that the Wildlife and Fisheries people realized that putting the carp in to eat the grass didn't completely ruin the fishing so plan B is about to go into effect.
