Humminbird Helix 12 SI vs. Helix 12 Mega SI

In the market for a new Helix 12 and wondering from those who have them, how much of a difference does the MEGA Imaging make. You can get the GEN 1 Helix 12 for a reasonable price with CHIRP; however I am interested to know if the MEGA Imaging GN2 is worth the extra $.

I appreciate any and all feedback

I just put new birds on my boat right before Mega came out (Onix 10 SI and Helix 10 DI) so I don't have the new Megas or a Helix with SI, but I'd say do it. If not you'd always have that "should I have" in the back of your mind. Here's a thread showcasing some members Mega images in case you haven't seen it, some pretty impressive stuff.

Ive never seen anything like that on my helix g2n mega SI chirp 12" units. Are the solix units just that much better?

Slightly but you should still get great images from the helix. The most important thing is proper install and settings

From what I've seen. The MEGA is practically night and day difference.

I went from a Helix 12 SI last year to the 12 SI Mega this year. The Mega definitely gives you a cleaner picture and you’ll see small stuff that I don’t think the regular SI can pick up – or it’s there and just not very clear so you can’t tell what it is.

Real world fishing results? I can’t say the mega has helped me catch any more fish. Everything you need to see – weeds, rocks, cribs, fish, etc shows up just fine on the regular one, but it’s just a LOT clearer on the mega. IMO, can’t go wrong with either one.

I'm having this same dilemma. Can save quite a few bucks not getting the mega imaging but then i'll probably always want it if i don't lol.

I am outfitting a new rig and at first ordered the helix 10 up front and 12 at console but quickly changed to mega after a little research

I've got three Solix 12's on the way with mega, never owned a HB unit and hope my images are as clear as the ones above.

    Tough choice
    just depends on budget
I couldn't justify almost twice the money of mega 10's. I went g1 helix 10 si... mega is sweet. Not 100% sure it will help ya catch more fish and for nearly twice the price no way was I pulling the trigger on mega for two more features (mega, chirp)

I went with two Helix 10 SI's for $1830 OTD compared with two Helix mega 10 SI's for $ 3200 OTD. I just couldn't justify paying all that extra $ for somewhat better imaging.

Yup I bought a Helix 12 Si Gen 1 and a Helix 10 Si Gen 1 both new for less than 2k. Couldn't justify spending the money on Mega. I'm sure it's great but in the end I can still tell what I'm looking at with the gen 1

Looks like somebody lost a few dozen donuts overboard in those last couple shots.
