    Motor Oil

I have an Etec 225 HO. I have been running XD-100 in it but was wondering if I could run Lucas oil in it?

If it meets tcw-III specs, yes...I'll stick with the best oil out there that will actually clean my engine while I run it....no need to decarb....

If the Lucas oil is TC-W3 certified, be sure your motor is set for TC-W3 oil, see your dealer, and that it is not at the reduced-oil setting for XD-100 only. Older HO models had the choice, newer HO models do not.

I'd stick with XD-100 unless you really need to save some $.

BRP made significant (apparently needed) changes to the E-TEC's oiling delivery by model year ~ year 2011 altering the block/pistons to deliver improved lubrication:

-cylinder sleeves were redesigned to improve oil flows to the skirt areas on the piston.
-A rear oil manifold was added to improve oil distributions
-the piston splash port and dome were made more reliable

As mentioned BRP has also reversed their earlier philosophy by removing the low oil use (XD-100) setting option altogether. That ensures for these recent models that a higher supply of oil is always provided despite their having touted the low oil use setting as an E-TEC marketing feature for years.

Seems genuine XD-100 (on the TCW-3 setting) is the optimum choice for reliability especially on older models not having these oiling system improvements.

It never hurts to check and see if your local dealer sells oil in bulk.

Can you share who this company is? I get it from a local company but it is still around $40 per gallon.

It's probably Domo online or Suncoast.

Amazon has the best buy if you purchase a 3 gallon case. You can get 3 gallons to your door for $97.74 plus free shipping...FYI its shipped and sold by Leaders RPM but the order goes through Amazon.
