    Rebuilding an AR

Got an AR from a friend to help him out. He has an A-2 style with full carry handle and wants to mount a thermal imaging scope. He does not want it mounted on the top of the handle so I will need to get a new upper and hand guard. Need to look over the barrel but I believe I would need the longer free float for it. He has had it a couple years but never fired it.
Honestly thinking I would just find a flat top upper and a quad rail hand guard but trying to decide if I need to go billet or not.

What's your opinion on parts to pull this off?

Billet is heavier and not really a value add.

A new flatop receiver and handrail of choice will be all you need as long as you are just going to hacksaw the FSB. Honestly if it were me I would just buy a new flatop complete upper from PSA.
