I primarily use a Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch and love it. Keep two rigged up. Great rod for a lot of other uses too. You can save a bit and go with the same model in the Levante series.

Biggest thing is to choose one based on how heavy the cover is etc. Take all things in consideration. I wish you the best no matter what brand you choose.

I have both the aforementioned Dobyns Savvy 735 and Megabass XX Perfect Pitch for frogs. Both have Tatula CT XS reels and 65 lb braid. Both do the job well but I prefer the extra backbone of the Perfect Pitch. The Savvy is a good rod for buzzing toads around the edges of cover, the Perfect Pitch is a little heavy for that but it will do the job. I recenty bought a Megabass XX Tournament Versatile to buzz toads with and my initial impression is that it sits in between the Savvy and the Perfect Pitch. If I had to choose only one though it would be the Perfect Pitch.

There are a bunch of great frog rods out there these days. The Megabass XX Perfect Pitch is an awesome rod indeed, and is also a great jig rod in general. Hammer Rods 7'3" Extra Heavy Tackle Trap Limited makes an outstanding frog rod and is on a heck of a sale right now!

St. Croix LTB Slop-N-Frog/Swim Jig rod. Excels at both techniques. Loads up well with hollow body frogs, and I get great long distance casts with 50# braid.

7' H Hammer works perfect for me. perfect tip and weight for one handed casting and enough backbone to set the hook when i make a long cast.

I started using a Powell 734 3D for my all-purpose frog fishing and it seems to do well. Pretty light outfit for the length. May not be what I would use if I was doing nothing but fishing mats, would go with something a little heavier, but this rod would work just maybe not as well for mat fishing. I had tried a number of 7ft HVY and MHVY rods for forgging. The HVY rods just don't have enough tip and the MHVY rods have too much tip and not enough backbone. Thje 7-3 length in HVY gives the blank enough tip for casting and working, and enough backbone for winching.

I would think a powell 734 very good for everything but heavy matts. Then maybe move up to the 775. I've not tried a frog on my 775 which works well for buzzbaits in heavy cover.

have you tried it vs. HE3 7'3H?? HE3 is so nice hard to use it for a frog rod yet it is only a few $ more
