    AR15 Scope help

Hey all I just picked up an American Tactical 5.56 ar15 this week. Love it. This is a brand new world for me and I really dont know that much about ar15s so I am asking for help. I bought the rifle without optics and what do you guys recommend for scope. I will use this some for hog hunting and range. So if heard red dot an then I have heard scope. What do you recommend and why? Thanks so much!

What distance will you be shooting? 50 yards and under, red dot would probably do the trick. Longer distances call for a riflescope...at least for my 48 year old eyes.

Plenty of good optics out there in all price ranges. I like a 3-9x40 on my .223 ARs. Last one got a Vortex Crossfire II.

I put a bushnell trp red dot and a 3x vortex magnifier on an ar this summer- can do 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards- paid like 210 for both. Certainly better quality stuff but this cheap combo works real good

+1 Red dots are tough for tight groups over distance.

Nikon makes some decent AR varmint scopes. I like Leupold for most of my scope needs

I'd say up to 100-125 yards any thoughts do they not make a combo red dot and scope?

I don't know what your price range is but the are many 1-4x, 1-6x scopes with an illuminated reticle that can work somewhat like a red dot.

I have a Trijicon MRO (red dot) that I just put an Aimpoint 3x magnifier on and it will be a big help for me; other than that I'm going with a low power variable scope with illuminated reticle. Next one will be 1-8x FFP.
