    Minn Kota Maxxum steering cables

Last weekend during a tournament my trolling motor cables finally went. Motor had no steering at all. I picked up a set of new cables....both left and right side. I have never attempted to replace these before. They did come with a diagram, but I was looking for a YouTube video to help with the installation process and cannot find one. I've looked on Minn Kota's website for a video and still find nothing. Even googled it and don't find much there either. Does anyone know if an instructional video exists? How intensive is the process to replace these cables?

They're not hard to replace. I usually send the instructions when ordered from Jones Trolling Motor. The company you ordered them from should be able to help.

    John,
Yesterday I stopped into my local dealer and they had the cables in stock. My motor serial # is: MKAA1724134 The cables they gave me are: 2887510-Left and 2887500-Right. Are these the correct cables for my motor?

Ok, I know my motor is about 15 years old, so I wanted to make sure before I start taking things apart.

The cables might have gotten too loose and simply fallen off.

Actually, I think that is what happened. With work and other things, I haven't tore into it yet to get it apart...that is the plan tomorrow, but I knew my foot pedal range of steering was very little and that the cables were stretched. I have tightened the tension screw down all the way and during a tournament last weekend, it finally went out. the foot pedal just flops forward and backward with not tension.

Oops. Since you tightened it before it went out, you better take it apart first.

Also, look at the lower part of the head (lower control box) and see if the prongs that the steering attach to are broke. Common if the motor still has the 2 hole steering conduit.
