All my Lews reels
All my Lews reels
Big Daiwa fan here with a Tatula CT, CT type r and Tatula SV. These reels have been nothing but great for me from fishing flukes to froggin. Tho I did handle a shimano curado 70 I believe and it was very nice and I was able to cast a bit further with it. That being said I've been told by many the new curado 200k is THE reel to get at the moment.
It was a package deal from the local farm store. 1 piece graphite vendetta rod & black max reel for... $99 I think? I forget. I don't recall what power the rod is, it's out in the rod locker right now and I'm feeling lazy. Bought it last spring, used it one day and almost threw it in the lake. Went fishing with a buddy who uses casters exclusively, and thought I'd give it another chance.
Last spring I was throwing Rapalas, this most recent trip I was trying to throw Texas rigged senkos. I was shore fishing this last trip, so I was trying to toss them a good ways. Rapalas I was in the boat, but of course still trying to throw them a good ways.
I like the suggestion of using a friend's rig that is already set up and works for him.
I have a couple of the lews tournament pros in the for sale section. Great reel. Switching to ardent though since on the pro staff. My ardent apex grand has held up great over the past year. Enough for me to sell my others

Lew's
Shimano Citica or Lews LFS. The citica will cost about $135. I have 7-8 that are a few years old and they are still in good shape. I was with someone one day and they were talking about Lews. I had never used one so they let me make a few cast with theirs. It was the LFS model that cost $100. I really like my Shimano's but I was impressed enough by the Lews to go buy 3 of them. One thing I do like better about Lews is the quick brake adjustment verse how you adjust Shimano brakes. I have only had them a few months so I have no long term quality information. I do know you get years of use out of a Shimano if properly maintained. So far I really like the Lews. If I were to buy another reel anytime soon it might be another LFS.
Most of my reels are Abu Orra SX. I do have a couple Revo SX and a couple 13 Fishing reels. The 13 Fishing Concept A is phenomenal, I think.

O.K. Since it was a $99 special I wouldn't expect too much from it, but you should expect it to function. I have a friend that fishes with his wife as a partner, they both cast Senkos with a baitcaster and he can skip one under a dock, which I can't, but even he gets tangles. Many Rapalas are balsa, at least the ones I throw are, I use the small versions in Winter and catch bass all year, but they are light. The local experts can cast very light baits with a baitcaster but I use a spinning rod for Senkos and balsa cranks if I expect any real distance. The rod makes so much difference, a fast tip propels the bait so much further FOR ME as I'm older, in my fourth 25 year of age segment. I still fish tournaments, and cast all day.
+1 Agreed!! That's all that's in my boat!! Picked up a team light last year and now own 5 plus my pros. Wish I would've switched years ago!! They are just that good. Casting are all lews and working on switching my spinning over to pflueger. Won't get any brand bashing from me, but I've fished pretty much all brands. I highly recommend saving some coin and trying them out. Crazy bang for the buck and durability!!
Ambassadeur 5000's & 5500C's still work perfect.
