I wish the promax holeshot like my hydros
    OR
I wish my Hydros accelerates as easily as the promax

    Pretty much sums it up

IMO it's hard to beat the all around performance of a X-O/B.

I run Stroker and I have to agree. My 28 and 30p xob are my go to props for all around running/fishing. The performers are for speed runs and playing with the big boats but only a bit faster than the x0b.

    On a Bassportpro 300 XS 175 gear.
Croxton Razor XL 28 pitch Ok prop decent hole shot. Top end about equal with the rest of them on my boat.
31 XOB this should have been the perfect for my boat. It was far from it. Hole shot was horrible it wouldnt stay hooked up. As soon as the boat flattened out it would bury the nose/lift the stern and until you were trimmed to 8 or above it would stay there. A 29 or 30 would have been a better choice. Todd treated me fair and took the prop back refunded my money. I would like to try a 29 if they ever get any.
28 Promax this prop works very well. Holeshot is the best I have had. Top end is fair. I bought this prop used it has been worked by Robbie Patterson so who knows really on the pitch or cup.
28 Hydromotive Intimadator OT4. This prop I was told would not work on my boat. It's hole shot is not good big over rev. But it has the best top end so far on my boat. With a rework I think this could be a decent prop.
My boat is slow compared to a lot of others so I can't brag about those big numbers. Of these props I would rate the Croxton good because of its price and Marks great service. The Promax works well but it needs to be worked. XOB everybody loves them. Sorry I don't feel the same.

I think you have had 2 of these boats now, is that correct?

Have you ever had an opportunity to weigh either, or both of these boats fully loaded as you normally run them?

I loved a 26.5" Hydro XOB Quad I once had. Best fishing prop I've had. The 28 Hydro XOB Qud was ok for speed runs but not a great feeling on top end. Weird feeling in my butt at top speeds. Now I am in love with a 27"TXP. It has good hole shot, good mid, and a joy on top end.

Johnny, what gears? I recently purchased a 27P TXP on BBC and with my 1.62 gears it struggled getting out of the hole. I know TXP's run stiff but not that stiff. Must have been tightened up.
With my 1.75 gearcase it was up and gone quickly like I expected. I sent it off to get a second set of PVS holes added, cleaned up and spec'd to see what it realloy is.
I too have always liked TXP's

28P XOB runs great with a pretty good hole shot loaded and has run 92.1 so far for one quick burst. My favorite.
28P Bravo worked by robbie is also pretty good on hole shot. Runs real well and is a great fishing prop.
28P new Promax run the first tiem and it took forever to get on plane. It lugged at first and slowly built up enough to get going and then the bow drops and the over revving associated with every Promax I've run before. However, the acceleration was incredible once it took off and drove real well. Also sent off for a second set of PVS holes and then go from there.

Craig, you are rating those props with your 1.75 gears, correct?

    2003 XB-21 2+2 single console
    2004 Merc 250XS (stock 5950rpm limiter)
    Stock 1.62 sportmaster

I will probably forget some and update this as I remember more...I have tested a lot of props over the past 3 years.

    The Good

    29p Hydro XOB dual pvs
    28p Hydro XOB dual pvs
    27p Hydro XOB dual pvs
30p Bravo I dual pvs worked by Robbie
    30p Promax
    30p BC Performer 3
    28p BC Performer 4
    28p Promax dual pvs

The Bad (not really that bad)

    27p Lab Finished Bravo 1 4 1in vent holes
    28p Worked Chopper II
27p Turbo FXP with 4 pvs holes
28p Powertech Razor 4 dual pvs

    The Ugly

28p Hydro XOB cut down to 14.5 diameter, no flare, 4 1in vent holes
29p Hydro Intimidator stern drive prop cut down to 14.75 diameter
    27p Ally cut Trophy
    29p Signature 4
    28p BC Performer 3
28p Turbo TXP OT-4 no vent holes

Lessons learned. Pay attention to what works for others, but there is no replacement for testing different props on your boat with you driving it. Every set up and driver is different. Also, no two props are equal, even if they are the same make, model, and pitch. I have come across runners and turds. Just because you tried a prop once and didn't like it, don't pass up the opportunity to try another one because you never know what your gonna get (said in your best Forrest Gump voice).
