Questions on the Shimano 200i Pinion Bearing

What is the function of this bearing? My guess is that it somehow supports the pinion gear. Why does the 200i series have this and others not? Is this bearing in play (spinning) during the cast, the retrieve, or both? Thanks

All reels have a pinion bearing. Now, if you are referring to the bearing that they added to dually support the pinion gear, then that is the Shimano X Ship bearing. It's only function is during the retrieve.

I believe that all the new Shimano baitcasters under the cast control cap have that extra (XShip) bearing under the spool bearing for additional pinion gear support.

Idea is to minimize load torque and keep the gears wearing evenly. Dan
