    1997 champion 186dcx 175verado chipped to 225???

    Currently have a 97 186 with a 150xr6, running a 24p fury, loaded 58 with 2 guys,
64 low tanks and myself. A 2011 175 verado is up for sale near me. Motor is chipped to a 225.
what would that thing push my 186 to on the top end if I prop it out? Motor has 1000 hours
and was previously owned by a local guide and was very well maintained. What do you think it would push mph, and should I be worried about hours? Thanks again.

If your speeds with the current motor are correct why change. That is fast enough for that 186. I would not want to go 70 plus mph in a 18.5' boat.

Ask Don on the Merc forum about the hours.
    Hope is not a method!

It's weight is around 510lbs. About a hundred pounds more than your current merc. Speed wise sounds like a plan if it has good compression numbers. Don't think I'd hang a pair of shallow anchors off the back too.

I wouldn't buy a 1000 hour motor just so I could wind it out. Just sayin.

Had a worked 175 efi on my 186 champ with a 25 tempest boat would run high 60's and would scare the crap out of you. With the small boat and high speeds it would get sqirrley and act stupid before you could even react. Not only that it's a 1k hour motor that weighs almost 100lbs more than a xr6, personally I'd pass on the motor

I had a 97 186 SX with a Johnson 150 FastStrike. 25 Renegade work by DAH. Would turn 56-5700rpm and run 66-67mph all day every day. One late October day I decided to run some gas out of it before I put it up for the winter. No gear, no seat, maybe 10 gals fuel. Flat out 5700+rpm, 70-71mph, I could keep it on the pad @ 70 but once it hit 71 it would start a slight chine walk, and at that speed discretion was the better part of valor, I retreated to the 69-70mph. Those FastStrkes were strong engines.

How fast do you want to go?
A 225 promax would be a much better choice on a 186 than a verado.
Well setup 186/225 should easy run 75-78 mph.
It will be a drivers boat at that speed but nothing too crazy.
