Go the other direction. Nickjack has some decent grass.

I guess it's not just lack of grass on Chick this year. Ditto the above, Nickajack has quite a few mats. 202DC, you are only 1.5 hours or so from Marion County Park, the ramp beside where I-24 crosses the lake/river. Put in there and drive up river (toward Chattanooga) and take you pick of the mats.
Thanks for the input guys!!

Ky lake has zero grass, I would go to Chick anything above hwy 60 bridge. Just about every
pocket/cove has grass in it. I think the frog bite will be on fire in a couple three weeks if the weather
would just cooperate.

Is the frog bite any good on Nickajack? I’ve only fished that lake once and it was wary springtime.

As of this writing, the grass has begun to appear on the Chick with improved fish activity. But the Heartland guys will probably catch them all tomorrow and Saturday.
Looking like we will just head down to Nickajack for a day trip next Thursday. If we have to go above Hwy 60 on Chick to find grass that adds another hour or so to my drive and kinda exceeds my preferred day trip driving distance. Is the bite on Nickajack any good, or am I better off driving the extra hour to North Chick? I have never fished Chickamauga and have only been on Nickajack once before. My main goal is to fish some mats as I only get to do that about once a year.

My resident TN River expert (my son) says as of now, first choice Chick - upriver from the Hwy 60 bridge (Dayton), second choice Guntersville - upriver from Comer Bridge, third choice Nickajack - upriver from the I-24 bridge.
