I've been staying at JP Coleman state park the last 4 years usually early October. Great cabins, affordable and clean. Very accommodating to fisherman as well.Great ramp access too.Puts you mid lake, not a long run towards either dam.Going early November this year, hope the fishing is better, although can't complain about the lake early October. Hoping the top water smallmouth bite is better with cooler water temps.

J.P. Coleman is a good place. Just back down the ramp from motel! I live near the lake and know the area pretty well. If you want to fish mainly the Alabama end of the lake there are several good motels in Florence.

J.P. Coleman is the Mississippi State Park outside Iuka. Pickwick Dam area ha few hotels other than a Hampton Inn and Pickwick Landing State Park.

The Shoals has a bunch of new motels, but all have inside halls. The Baymont Inn used to be a Jameson Inn (pretty nice) and you can back the boat up to your door.
