    Anyone running a Tempest+ on a SHO?

I picked up a 25 Tempest+ from someone here on BBC. Plugged all the holes and tried it today. I am running a Triton 19X2 with a 225 SHO. Prop blew out at breakover at 3.5 & 4.0 below pad. I could only get 67.5mph at 6040 RPMs. Prop does not have a nick on it and is supposably stock but I have some doubts just looking at it. I have sent several props to Mark in the past and just not sure if this is a candidate or not. First question is is the wrong prop for the SHO??

I think the SHO 4 stroke needs more diameter and or blade area than a 3 blade at 14 5/8. But it depends on the boat and load.

Thanks Mike so the prop may be fine just too small diameter. I have tried the FXP but it was slower than the ventless T1 that came with the boat. I have a Bravo 1 FS 25.5 with all 8 holes plugged and it runs well just not as fast since it is a 4 blade. Are the T2 Vmax getting the kinks out? I heard some noise about ripples in the blades on the first ones??

My boat is nothing like yours but I do run a SHO 250 on my stepped hull boat. I tried a Tempest 25 and had so much slip at every rpm it wasn't funny. It was terrible.

Bravo FS and Turbo TXP OT4s run extremely well on my boat. But today I got to try a 24" Mercury Pro Max and WOW! It is like a whole new boat with the grip and lift it has. All very high grip 4 blades.

But then a buddy of mine runs a 19ft boat with a 200 SHO and likes his Yamaha VMAX prop.

The guy I bought my T1 from was selling it because the TPlus was faster on his Skeeter with a 250 SHO he said...I still bought the T1.

I'm in the process of trying a TPlus that Josh is working for me at SCP in TX. On my first trip out it ran 71 whether it was run deep or shallow...running shollow did have a big rooster tail. Also when breaking over on the hole shot it would slip unless you backed off of it.
Josh said he needs to make it more aggressive and to send it back to him. I will let you know when I get it back.

Hope that helps...if Josh can get it running even close to my T1's I will have three T1's up for sale

I tried one on my v20/sho combo. It worked ok, had better results with a fury. I do have two friends that run them, one on a skeeter and one on a ranger. They love them. Only way to find out is try. I was worried about trying a fury on my setup, everyone thought I needed to stick to a larger diameter prop, but the legend likes to run a deep prop and it loved the fury.

The fury has alot more blade area than a tempest and like to be lower. This helps with slipping on holeshot.

I'm running a tempest on my 2015 BC puma with 250 sho . My set up is for the long hall and top end . I'm running a 27 tempest with one solid plug and 2 smaller hole plugs . Tempest is my tournam ent prop great hole shot with very very little blow out coming out of the hole most of time it never does . Hole shot is instant . Top end is very good . Loaded for bear on tournament mornings it's a 78 to 79 mph boat . At just a hair below 6000 rpms . Tempest is just an average prop out of the box . Needs some prop love from good prop smith . If your looking for better performance try and find a 26 mess with the plugs to you get the hole shot as close as you can then send it off to get the rest of the hole shot you need plus improve the end with some balancing and lift added into the prop . This is my first Yamaha motor after owning Mercury s for 32 years . The Yamaha is a little Tuffer to get the most out of it . Hole shot is pretty easy . For the best top end speed with mine I'm at 1.5" below pad yamahas need to be ran a little higher than mercurys . Your not going to be able to do that with a tempest out of the box . I have another prop I run on it now that the weather is turning cooler and that is a 27 trophy . Hole shot is just a tad slower but flat out rocks . At 6100 rpms 80 to 82.7 at 2 1/4" below pad . It takes commitment time and money if you want the best your rig can run . Keep them Sharp .

Thanks guys for all the replys! The 25P VMax ventless T1 still runs the best out of all of them so I may sell the Temp+ and the Bravo and put the $$ into a 24P T2 to get my RPMs up especially in the summer...if they make a 24P that is

We have ran a 25-27 tempest on a number of 250 shos and all have been faster than the t1-txp.All worked by Croxton pvs holes one large plug and 2 open.

Same here. My Croxtonized Tempest is faster than the T-1 on my ZX225/225 SHO.
