Anyone running a Tempest prop on a 250 HOI just talked to a guy telling me his 2011 Z521 250 HO runs best with a 27p Tempest with 1 plug out. I have the exact same boat, anyone have any opinion on this. I currently run a 26p Raker HO that I have been happy with, but am looking for a spare prop/hub kit and seems like a decent price. He also has a 26p Raker and a 25p Raker II available.
27 seems like a lot of prop for that boat. I've run 25 Fury props on my last two Z520s (both with 250 E-Tecs), and while they've run close to the limiter with a light load, they've been spot on with two anglers. I am not a fan of the Raker II prop. If I were you, I'd look for at most a 26 Tempest or Fury, even for a spare, and if I had a prop specifically for a spare, I'd want it to spin easier, not harder. You can always hold a little back on top end, but who wants a spare prop that is harder to plane out than your usual prop?
