If anybody has lids that creak when walked on

I finally figured out the cure and it is cheap and easy

It's from carpet getting smashed down on the edge of the lids and when you move in they flex it's that metal on metal essentially that makes the noise. I found 1/8 inch marine weather sealant that I put around where all the lids touch; not only didn't make it more solid instantly took care of the creaks. Mine creeked badly. About a year after I bought the boat new it started to creak it went down to Skeeter and they re-carpeted it and I remember them saying they made the carpet thicker on the edges. That lasted for a year or two and then the creaks came back badly. This product is essentially a peel and stick application. I cleaned the metal on all of the lockers to remove them of dirt oil etc. cut these to length and put them down worked like a charm. I did my whole boat for $50. This has frustrated me since I purchased my FX 20 brand new and even the factory couldn't fix it so I thought I would share in case anyone else runs into the same issues. My dealer tried new lids, resetting the lids, making sure all of the screws were tight, putting lubricant on the hinges, and none of that worked. To be honest, not only does this make the lids firmer it also adds an extra barrier to keep moisture from getting in they should just make the standard on their boats in my opinion

If you openly admit something like this you should be skinned alive and slipped into a salt pit. And from Iowa no less, where hard work and pride in a job well done is a way of life for most people. SMH.

Some lids creak because they are improperly mounted. Most are not resting level on the aluminum grid. The hinge side of the lid is mounted too high and this puts most pressure on the opposite side of the lid.

Are you putting the tape on the hinge side of the lids?

I sprayed WD-40 where the lids touch the deck and the creak went away. Lasts for a season.
