Praying Reed help! Broken!!! Replace all or ????? 200 Opti

Pulled intake to replace gasket and inspect reeds. 3 of the "pedals" on 2 different blocks (2 pedals on one and 1 on the other) are missing corners, looks like the rest are ok with visual inspection.

So what do I do now?? just replace the broken ones, replace whole block or replace all. Trying to keep this some what economical.

when replacing is stock recommended or aftermarket etc. on the reeds.

Also is there something i need to have done in regards to the broken pieces some where in the motor?

For reference the reed pedals still cover the opening even with the broken corners.

    Thanks guys

You need to replace all the reeds now while you have it apart. Contact Don and get TDR reeds. They're fiber, not steel. Much safer for motor.

The VERY first thing I did when my 200 Opti was out of warranty was to replace the OEM steel reeds with TDR reeds. Replace ALL of them. You will probably have to lap the reed cages.

If you remove your cages, send them to Don, I believe he will lap them, install TDRs and send them back to you.

I think the TDR reeds were 150ish but that was years ago. If you want them installed on the cages or fully installed on yhe motor, the price will go up.

It's more to it then use replace the reed,s. You will have to check the reed blocks and make sure the rubber is still on the cages . then you have to lap the blocks . Get you a Mercury manual if you plan on doing it your self . TDR is some good reed;s to go back with , lose the steel ones.

828623T... No need to replace these unless there is damage found. Better off to lightly lap your original reed blocks. Make damn sure you use locktite on the reed screws and lightly oil reeds before re-installing manifold.

While on the subject of reeds, is it possible to check reeds using one of those digital cameras with the flexible lens that snakes thru the throttle body hole?

I also had steel reeds that broke and chipped on my 200 Pro XS (1B788247). I replaced them with a non metallic reeds. Better to be safe than sorry.

No. The plenum must be removed to check properly. The camera can't see the opposite side.

So based on what I am reading and seeing it is really probably best to have the TDR put in by Don. Is there anything that needs to be changed or adjusted?
What difference will the TDR reeds make performance wise.

    Thanks again guys

Performance wise, none that you would notice. The advantage is should it ingest a reed the fiber will do no damage compared to a steel reed.

While I was having TDR reeds installed, I had my whole intake as well as the injectors serviced by Don. One noticeable difference was the idle became so much smoother. No more shake on long slow runs in no wake zones.

Im sure this has been said (did read thread) but Ill say it again, if Im going to take the time to replace one metal reed, they are ALL getting replaced with non-metal reeds!

My engine has a smoother idle and noticeably stronger mid-range response in addition to no worries about ever ingesting a metal reed.
