Prop slip when moving from3 to 4 blade prop

From everything I read a 4 blade generally has more bite. So if I move from a tempest to a trophy pitch for pitch will I reduce slip? Currently have a 23 tempest and calculating that I having slippage (according to Mercury's prop slip calculator) of about 7.5. I have raised the motor as high on my plate as I can go without losing psi. If I lower the plate I start to lose speed.

    thanks in advance

Dont let slip percentages dictate a good set up. If my best prop runs 20% slip, Who cares? More "Bite" doesnt always mean better. 1 more blade, More diameter, Cup, Rake, Pitch progression all can have effects on "Bite"...

    My current setup is:
1996 Ranger 482vs with Mercury xr6, 23 tempest plus (brand new), 6inch cmc jack plate manual prop shat 3 1/8 below pad
    58.2 at 5400 rpm.

from what I read this setup should have more int.

    any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated

Dont believe everything you hear or read on the net... Every hull/motor/prop/load/elevation is different... I dont think you are doing bad for a older boat/motor.

That's no lie! I think half the guys in here are using the speeds of their boats while being pulled by their trucks.

I'd be more concerned with the motor not turning more rpm's than the slip number. You might want to read this thread and make sure you have done everything listed here. http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=22490 Changing to a four blade on your Ranger probably won't help because you'll lose some bow lift and you need all you can get.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have replaced all fuel lines, but haven't rebuilt the pump. I will take it in and get that done. Should I also have them check to make sure the throttle is opening all the way?

If the lines were bad the pieces can end up in the pulse fuel pump that's why you rebuild it at the same time.
