Honda 225 on a bass boat?
I'm seriously considering a Honda for my upcoming repower. I have a Ranger 520VX which is a fairly heavy hull and I carry a lot of gear. Wondering if anyone has this motor on a similar bass boat and what kind of performance are you getting out of it. I'm currently getting about 65mph average with my two-stroke Evinrude. How much speed and hole shot am I going to lose with the Honda? I'm willing to give up some performance for the increased longevity. Thanks.

Buy my 2017 Honda 250...You are going to see 60s is all that I can tell you...No doubt about that but I doubt you will hit 70...

You have a heavy boat so 70 will be hard to touch. My 225 will push my boat low 70s and 68-69 full gas and livewells. If you don't care about getting there fast it is a reliable motor. Holeshot is a little tricky to figure out or at least it was on my boat.

I had a 225 on a Phoenix 721 and it run 68 to 69.
You might lose a little but you should still be over 60 I would think.
I have a lead on a Brand New 225 for 15000K if your interested!!
What year is your Ranger?

Thanks guys. I'm going to run the FICHT til she blows but if I can get 60+ with a Honda I'll be happy with that. It's a normally aspirated engine correct?

Thanks! Are there any common issues with the VTec or is it a very reliable engine?

No issues, same basic engine that is in the V6 cars that run hundreds of thousands of miles, with very little maintenance!!
