    mississippi river map question

    Is there a online map of the mississippi river where i can find the names of the creeks/backwaters/lakes in the mississippi river?

    You can use the "fishhound" app and just explore the map. It has a lot of the backwaters labeled. Best thing to do is just post a picture of the area you want a name for or ask where a backwater is and we can give it to you.

    The US Corp of Engineers has navigational maps of every river they're in charge of--including the Mississippi. But this one would probably be 100's of pages long since it's such a huge waterway.

    The river meanders so much that the 400 miles from Memphis to New Orleans is about 800 miles by water. That's a lot of maps.

    I personally have no desire to ever get out on that mud pit again. There are relatively few places south of Memphis to even buy gas or to get out of the way of tugboats at night.

    If you want to see the river in specific areas, look it up on GoogleMaps.com.

    This guy is talking about 10 hours north of what you are talking about. Pools 6-10 type stuff of the Mississippi...where the water is clean and the smallmouth live.
