    Swimbait

Finally got around to painting this bait I made like six years ago or something... It has been sitting on a shelf that whole time.

I need to develop a paint schedule for rainbows. This is about 80% of where I want it to be. I think studying taxidermist/fish carvers is the way to go.

Anyway, it swims great, like Triple Trout on quaaludes, not as spastic as a Triple Trout. This one is a floater.

What kind of tail are you going to use?

I actually have not made up my mind. Lexan would be the path of least resistance, but I was thinking about trying the Microfibbets/paintbrush method.

A nice piece of 1-3mm vinyl would work as well, and not shatter, though it might degrade with UV exposure.

If I keep making this thing, I may wind up making a mold and pouring plastisol tails, ala Triple Trout. I like that fluid, quiet movement a soft tail provides. I like the quiet baits, so many are very noisy.

I agree with everyone else - very nice. Not sure where the 20 percent improvement in the paint job is going to come from.

I really like the contoured "V" shape in the cuts, would make the swimming motion a little less harsh if I had to guess.

Stole a tail off a bait l made a few years back. It is a little bit undersized, but whatever. I was feeling lazy.

I need to upsize the hooks one size, and add a tiny bit of weight to the tail section, like a gram or two, and we are done.

It swims in a very natural manner, without the exaggerated serpentine movement of some three piece baits. The tail wants to rise a little, and l dont like that, but it will be easy to fix.

Pretty pleased, l think l will get some fish with this one.
