    Trailer rust. Replace or repair

I have a 2002 Triton dual axle trailer manufactured by Marine Master. Everywhere there is a grommet for wiring coming out of the box frame it is rusting. One spot is developing a crack in the frame. Is it possible to get the trailer repaired or is it a lost cause?

If it is that bad you will just chasing your tail. Weld one and another shows up. What if you miss very critical one?

Or start welding and find a rusted out spots. That is fun.

But alas it is possible and good shop will be able to tell you if it is in a state that can be repaired. Rust itself is not that bad.

Mine did the same on a 2006 MM trailer. I pulled all grommets out but the holes got larger and larger. Just a matter of time. I have already replaced this year.

I fish a lot of brackish water and my steel tube trailer did not last very long. I patched it up for a couple years but it kept getting worse. I finally replaced it with an aluminum I beam trailer and it has been great.

The inside of your tubes is probably rusting away. Channel is the only way to go.

Should be against the law to build a tube frame boat trailer --

I have read many posts on rusting Marine Master trailers, especially if they are used in brackish water. Most cases are fatal. If you buy a replacement try to get an aluminum one, or second choice a galvanized trailer or a "C" channel trailer.

There is only one good thing to do with a tube trailer and that's sell it for scrap! If it's showing rust on the outside it's already ruined on the inside.
If you're going to be dumb, you've got to be tough!
