Any idea how I can gain some speed in my boat? Prop to pad is 5 inches below with everything leveled. Running a 25 renegade with weed ring and prop is in good shape. Wondered if someone with experience with this hull knows if that engine height is too low or what I can do to help. Any suggestions appreciated. Engine is a 225 johnson ho 225 with good compression numbers.

you are way to low. Needs to be around 3 1/2 inches below pad. What are your rpm's and what is your psi when running wot. What speed are you getting out of it right now?
30 plus psi on water pressure. In cool weather and just me and light load 5900 or so. Hot and humid conditions 5400 to 5600. Ive seen 62 to 65 mph with ideal conditions.

if you psi is that high you can move your motor up and your rpm's should stay good with raising your motor a little. Now you are under powered being you have a 21ft boat with a 225 on it. Those numbers might not be to bad. I have a 200 on my 19xl prostar and I get 68 out of her. I am 3 1/2 inches below pad
What's your wide open throttle speed now? Engine height is definitely to low & the renegade is probably slowing you down too. Got any buddys with everything needed to try a 25 or 26 pitch tempest plus? An original raker 26 pitch should work too & definitely give you more bow lift which should give you more speed set at 3 to 3.5 inches below pad.
If you don't have a Jack plate, get one. Ditch the Renegade for a 25 Trophy or Tempest and get the Michigan Wheel #200 hub kit. Get some spare vent plugs of different sizes and start your testing with the PTP at 3.5''. These hulls like weight in the azz too. But they need real good bow and aft lift to get the best performance and that's why the Trophy works well. Make sure the prop is new or a known good prop. Just because it looks good doesn't mean it is. I once bought a prop from a guy on here that looked great but, was way out of spec. Fortunately he took it back and I just lost my shipping charges.

I will be moving engine up next weekend and testing. I tried a raker 26 a buddy had with engine set at 4.25 below pad. It would only turn 4800 rpms and when trimming up sounded like it wanted to blow out. Definitely didnt raise the bow. Wanted to add it has an 8 inch hi jacker pro jackplate.

i would try or buy a 24p bravo1 fs with vents -- great prop all around--- a fury 24p 3 blade might be second choice
fury like to be about 3.5 but brave can be 3-3.25

65 with a 225 is pretty good especially if its also a 2002.

You needed it set atleast at 3&1/2 below & probably closer to 3 which should also bring the rpm up some too. 4.25 is way to low.
Weather clearing tomorrow and have some time to test. Have to move engine up 2 holes to gain 1.5 inches of travel on jackplate. At highest setting as it is now jackplate maxes out at 4 inches below pad. After moving engine up to last hole should have movable range on the jackplate of 2.5 to 6 inches below pad as the jackplate slots have about 3.5 to 4 inches of adjustment.
get as close to 3.5 below as possible really need a good merc prop also

I have an 02 20xl prostar with 08 225 ho etec 10 jp 3ptp with a worked 24 rx4 prop will run 70 all day 2 guys tournament loaded with one talon and lithium batteries in the 90 degree heat

Is the 20 and 21xl and the prostar the same hull?
Just got back from lake.....verified at 3.5 inches. Running slower than it was at 5 inches below. Lost a lot of bow lift but it steers easier. Seem to be able to trim up for miles with not much bow lift response. Will try to find another prop to test. Running 5400 rpms high humidity.
try a 24p fury 3 if you can--- bravo 1 based probably the best overall also 24p bravo 1

So apparently moving up 2 bolt holes which is 1.5 inches on the motor does not translate to 1.5 inches of lift. I guess the jackplate setback and angle changes measurements. Should have been at 3.5 according to my math but currently sitting at 4 inches. Going to move up and try again. Appears my max engine height with everything maxed out will be sitting around 3 to 3.25 as high as it will go.
should be there at that height --really need a 6inch jack plate
