    Removing outboard from 518vx

Have a quick question I want to replace my jackplate I am somewhat mechanically inclined how hard is it to remove engine? Mercury 200 Optimax should just be a remove and replace deal with no replacing any cables. Anyone else done this I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

I used a chainfall hooked to the steel beam in my shop. Hooked it into multiple lifting points and then unbolted it and slid
it back a little. Installed jackplate and then reinstalled motor. One man job, maybe an hour and two beers

I use marine silicone on the bolts through the transom. even if you don't take the transom bolts out the need to be resealed if the turn a bit. I use an engine hoist with a Mercury lifting eye.

I also used an engine hoist with the proper lifting ring.
    Resealed using 3M 4200

It would be best to use all new mounting hardware (at least the nuts and bolts) when doing this

I cleaned out the old sealant and resealed the holes. It was a while ago, but I think
    it was 4200

eBay. They're something like $23. Just search "Mercury outboard lifting ring" and you'll find several sellers with them. They screw into the top of the motor, like right in the middle of the fly wheel. The "genuine" ones from Mercury are big bucks if you decide you need to go that route.
