I've been using strike king rage toads for several years now and durability hasn't been an issue at all
Z-Man Hard Leg FrogZ. They last and last and last, just like most of Z-Man's stuff made out of Elaztech. Thread one on over a dab of super glue and it may well outlast the rest of the buzzbait.

The black Toad w/a Wh. Buzzbait seems to be a contender...
Strike King Rage Toad mainly, but a Stanley Ribbit has been working well too. Either or.
Honestly, I just prefer a skirt and short trailer I guess.
Need to try the technique more.

My question is what buzzbait you using ? Not to take away from your thread just curious, I bought some horny toads and want to try this rig not sure which buzzbait would work best.
Wow, great idea. Don't know why I never thought about this but I fish buzzbaits a LOT and that would be a great way to replace a busted skirt.
The best one I have found is the dirty jigs Canterbury buzzbait

Manns hardnose swim toad. I think I get better hookups 'cause the legs don't get in the way. I just use Cavitron buzzbaits.
Zoom Horny Toad. I wrap the hook shank of a skirtless war eagle with some braid and superglue. That makes a fantastic trailer holder and I can use Horny Toad all day!
