I;ve been side imaging docks for crappie for several years. Started out with a humminbird 597 and now use a Striker 7SV. i have my transducer mounted on my jack plate so that it is high enough to pick up the flotation on the docks. I idle by 10'-20' from the dock with my distance set about twice the water depth only viewing the side the dock is on I can see the schools of fish if there are any and tell where they are located under the dock. Water needs to be at least 15' deep and the deeper the better.

When you say tilted, did you do it so that the DI fan is parallel to the bottom - so the transducer is vertical with the long axis of the transducer in the up/down direction?

Actually, it looks like you just twisted/rotated it around the long axis of the TD and the water is 25 ft deep at your side of the floats? If so, the key thing here would be deep enough water at the leading end of the floats/docks. The water will need to be at least as deep as the doc is long to see under it clearly.

You have almost no surface returns which helps a lot.

Looking at this picture again, it looks to me like you have that angled so the center of the DI beam would be pointing to the side at about the same angle the sideview beam would be pointed if it wasnt turned.

Does it work significantly better to use the DI instead of the SI? If so, I wounder why..... Have you tried it with just the SI?

Do you happen to know what the cone angles are on the side and down?
