To rework or reprop? That is the question.

Skeeter 20i with a 250 SHO 2 3/4" below pad with 18-20 psi water pressure with roughly 90# tackle between mine and partners. Ran a 27p T1 with one person to 5700 rpm @ 74.5 mph but 5400 rpm @ 71-72 mph with 2 people. Holeshot was great and was happy with the speed but not straining the motor down to those rpms. Swapped out to a used 25p T1 and now with same setup and two people (haven't been alone with it yet) I hit 6100 rpm @ 73.8 mph and was still climbing so feel good enough to say 74 mph but ran out of water on the lake. Great holeshot and awesome top end loaded as it is but wasnt expecting that much jump in rpm. Wondering if having cup added would bring me down just a hair or should I be looking for another prop for winter as I dropped 200-300 rpm from march until now with the 27p? Curious because I saw the 25p Solas Scorpion in the classifieds that is deemed a clone to the T1 but much cheaper and wondered what my options are as far as reworking this one and buying another prop? Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

You would probably do good with a 26 solo and a 25 with 2. 6100 and 74 with 2 on that rig is pretty dang good.
The Solas is a stiff prop and will run close to what your 27 is Turing now. The 27 is too much prop for your setup.

Have the 25 worked. Outcome will be much more desirable. If you buy a new prop, it may be a turd and may need to be worked to run as good as what you have.

Purposely I didn't mention that this prop has been to a shop previously. I was told it just had some nicks in the leading edge and they were fixed which may be true. The shop that did it will not answer, or return a call, voicemail, or email for over two weeks. I got the prop from a member here and am for the most part happy with the prop. Never expected it to run that good fully loaded as it does. What I didn't purposely leave out was the biggest reason I was wanting to ask about having it reworked but evidently completely forgot to mention was that it blows out at the break over point going onto pad. That is really the main reason I was asking about adding cup and if that may help but also slightly lower the rpms down on top too. You can feather through it for a second or two and go on but I would never have thought that would happen with this prop. Also noticed when turning the prop by hand that one blade is closer to the cavitation plate than the other two which seems off. From reading hours of threads on prop reworking on the site I found where one guy's prop seemed all kinds of jacked up even with it running good and having stellar numbers, but after sending it in and having it "made right", it lost all of the positive characteristics it had before being worked. I really don't want to be that guy. Top speed is definitely not everything to me or I would have bought a Bullet. I was just wanting a 70+mph boat tournament loaded and this has far exceeded what I was hoping for with this prop. The thing is, now I really don't want to not be able to run 74 mph since I know it'll do it. Would the cup help with the blowout issue, and would it possibly have any effect on top end outcome? Thanks.

Anybody have any opinions about adding cup or some other modification helping with the blowout when breaking over onto pad?

The prop wouldn't happen to have the little vent slots cut into the front of the barrel, would it? If so, you need to have them welded up. The SHO motors need to run props with zero venting.

No it's solid but it does look like the gap on the front of the prop is wider than the 27p I had. I really don't think the gap I'm talking about makes a difference though. I would post pics but put me in the camp of "has trouble with pictures". I have no trouble on other sites and never did with photobucket, but I do here.

Adding cup to the 25 will bring the rpm's down but it will probably bring the speed down too and may not stop the blow out.

I'll have to see what I can find, but there was talk of something being done by a prop shop that had good results with an Allison that was blowing out. I was hoping one of the prop specialists would chime in to give some direction.
