PS-21 interference

Working on some ps21 issues myself.
Curious as to what info you would hope to gain from the requested 2D screenshot?
I will be out Thursday and am wondering what other screenshots may be helpful in trouble shooting.

Just guessing here, but if the same "noise" is on the screen when the PS21 is out of the water, then the PS21 is definitely bad. There should be nothing on the screen when it is out of the water.

I can post a screen shot of how mine looks out of the water later. Its mostly blank with a very small red fuzzy area very near the transducer location.

The reason for the 2D shot is to see if the 2D is picking up the same "stuff" in the water that is showing on the PS21 screen. Thats to see if there is something under the boat causing the problem - a weed bed, etc.

Those two things could prove there is a problem for sure.

Here is what my PS21 screen looks like out of the water. Its in a protective foam cover. Thats probably what the red zone close in is from.

Because we suspect that Monte was picking up clutter, either from a thermocline, thick plankton layer, etc. 2D will show this much better. Engineers went out on the water yesterday in response to this thread. They came back with this screenshot, confirming at least at this lake that a thermocline was present in 11-12 feet of water, and Panoptix view was very similar to the screenshot Monte posted above.

Are we talkin "noise" interference or "physical" interference?

This giant blob under mine is what I cant get rid of.

If you were asking why no digital depth number in this picture, its probably because of that blob.

This is why Todd asked for a split screen image with 2D and PS21 at the same time AND also a screen capture with the PS21 out of the water. We need to see both of those things to help figure this out.

So far, Im thinking like Todd does that your problem is water conditions and maybe too hi a gain setting - but - we need to see those other images to be sure.

Also - both of you - what Gain settings are you using and what Noise rejection settings?

Auto medium. I dont have any other td installed. Out of water is a clear blue screen. ty

MonteSS. The GT8 is an excellent 2d 8 pin transducer. When I'm using the PS21 I especially like the screen where the 2d takes up a small portion on the left and then the ForwardVu Live is to the right. I make it as small at the software will let me. Ordinarily I don't have it set to chirp. I have it set to 145 to get the widest cone. Once fish are closer than 10 feet, instead of looking at the Panoptix side, I look to the GT8. You might think about trying it. I think you'll like it.

Another use for it is to point it off vertical. Sometimes I tilt mine as much as 30 degrees forward or back depending on what I'm trying to do. On the 7610 this causes no problem. I've done this with other brands and it's useless if the unit can't set the bottom depth and the other brands seems to have more difficulty setting the bottom depth when the xd is tilted.

I have the TD that came with the 70dv but dont need it. I use a separate unit for 2d/di. ty

Then you would know if something else was going on in the water, especially with 2d and DI on the other unit, regardless of whether it was thermocline, algae,....or whatever.

Monte, the clean out of water pics are pointing in the direction of a settings or water quality problem rather than an issue with the PS21 - but - its not conclusive. If at all possible, we still need to see a 2D shot at the same time.

If the 2D is clear when the PS21 shows the blob, then its still probably the PS21 or it could be a settings issue.

If the 2D shows the blob or something similar, then its water quality for sure.

Could you do a temp hook up of a 2D transducer for testing?

Also - Try switching between auto Low, Auto med and auto HI and grap a shot at each setting - again preferably with a split screen that also shows the 2D.
