Fuel sending unit question
My fuel guage only reads between 1/4 to 1/2 a tank when tank full or empty. I just pulled out the sending unit tried to see if i could get to read full and it wouldent reed more than half a tank. I jumped pos and ground wire only read 1/2 tank not sure if its sending unit or fuel gauge

Disconnect the pink wire from the sending unit, and connect the pink wire to the negative terminal on the start battery.......What does the fuel gauge read?

Would jumping the wires on sending unit do same thing?

Yes, IF the ground wire at the sending unit is not the problem, that's why you test directly to the battery FIRST.

Be careful jumping those wires. I was testing mine and when I did, it popped a fuse under the cowl. It took my about 2hrs to realize why I didn't have power suddenly. :(

Impossible to pop a fuse by grounding the "pink" sending unit wire because, that is precisely what the fuel tank sending unit does, via the rheostat.

Ok so i grounded pink wire to battery ground and the fuel gauge still reads same.

Check for 12 volts at the gauge with a DVOM.

Ok will do. Will it read 12 volts no matter how much fuel is in it? Not sure how much fuel i have. Thanks for the help Savage

Fuel level doesn't matter when testing for 12 volts on the "I" terminal of the gauge.
