    Question Bass Boat floor coating

I have a new to me Basscat Cougar.
It has dual consoles and the carpet on the floor area around the
consoles is worn out, completly worn out, even missing in some spots.
All the carpet on the rest of the boat is either new or in real good shape.

I am thinking I would like to apply a product like Tuff-Coat.
    Its a bedliner type material.

Is there another product yall have used thats better?

How was the process to apply??

And are you happy with the results ??

    Thanks
    Dave

I would never use that type of product on the inside of a boat, particularly a glass boat. Replacing that small section of carpet should be an relatively easy DIY job.

You may want to look at marine vinyl....pretty straightforward as far as installing.

Any coating like that is going to greatly increase your prep work. Any remaining glue, or gouges are going to show thru the finish. Carpet is far easier.

I have an 84 Ranger that the previous owner did the bed liner thing. Hot as hell and rough on the knees and bare feet!

This. The piece on the floor is the easiest to do. Anything else will look like crap.

hydroturf seems like a good option, but dealing with the edges and keeping that looking nice could be tough.

If this was is something I was looking to do. I would look into some seadeck type material. EVA foam. All over ebay.

Carpet in bass boats, is the goofiest thing ever. IMO!

The previous owner of my tin rig did the roll-on, do it yourself bedliner thing--not my favorite and looks like crap. Like a previous poster said, it is rough as hell. It will skin your knee up if you are not careful and will cause some boat rash on your reels. Also, it's tough to clean as dirt gets in all the little bumps and crevices. I'm seriously thinking on sanding it down and reinstalling carpet at least on front and rear deck.

Boat builders use a roll-on non-skid called KiwiGrip.

They tape off surrounding areas, and roll on using a textured roller. Here's a couple internet pic examples of home built boats with Kiwigrip:

A lot of boats don't have carpet, so what's the big deal.

We use HYDROTRUF out Gatortail rigs. Cleanup is great. We normally get 2 to 3 years out of heavy use. The strongest is the pressed diamond. The cut line is good but not as wear resistant.

I put Tuff Coat on the front deck area of my pontoon, where pedestal fishing seats and trolling motor were. Looked pretty good and worked out fine. NO WAY would I EVER put it on my bass boat deck!

I used tuff-coat for down around the consoles in my fish and ski. Installed it in April and has worked well for me so far, i can't comment on its longevity.

I wont be kneeling down in the cockpit area, and I always have to fish with shoes on so it shouldn't be a problem for comfort.
