    Helix Questions

For all you HB guys out there..

Looking at a couple of different electronics for my console. They are:

    1 - Hummingbird 9 SI - Gen 1
    2 - Hummingbird 7 SI - G2N

Both are about the same price, would you go with the 9 Gen 1 or the 7 G2N?

Both of those come with the compact SI transducer .... I would go with the 9 and upgrade to the HDSI transducer ..... bigger is better for SI.

Is the image going to be substantially better with the upgrade?

There are comparison pictures on this forum .... I don't have time to search for them right now.....the 9 will be significantly better with the HDSI.

Do big deal to do that.

Each unit would need the AS EC QDE Ethernet adapter (12" long) to connect an Ethernet cable between them. The Ethernet cable is available in several lengths, figure out the total length needed along the path you route the cable, the number in the model name is the length:
    AS EC 2E
    AS EC 10E
    AS EC 15E
    AS EC 20E
    AS EC 30E

Yes .....if you only have 2 units. If you have 3 or more Ethernet devices you need the 5 port switch.

I have a 9 at the bow and 12 on the console. This is awesome because I sure didn't wanna spend that much on the box lol

Maybe y'all can answer this too. I had on old 700 and 800 series sharing a gps puck. Could I use that puck on my helix and if I can would anything be any better?

The external GPS that would be better would be the AS HS GPS ..... The electronic compass will show what direction the boat is pointed regardless of speed ...eliminates the donut.

I think all older GPS would be compatible with the new units but not 100% sure if there are any exceptions.

Yes you can share the GPS and Heading sensor in the AS GPS HS antenna via Ethernet, but not separately. Helix units have internal GPS antennas.
