what oz carpet is good for covering bunks on trailer , trailer has factory on it now want something with short nap so will dry out faster,going to cut just the 6in top off and put new carpet on top leave the sides and bottom on, any ideas??

What do you mean here? Only put new carpet on the surface of the bunk where the boat sits? Not sides?going to cut just the 6in top off and put new carpet on top leave the sides and bottom on, any ideas?
That won't really work well, since you'd have to staple the carpet down to the surface where the boat will be sliding. You'd run risk of a) snagging raw edges of carpet with boat, fraying or ripping the carpet off; b) grinding the hull onto exposed staples.
Carpet needs to be wrapped around sides and secured.
