    223 Ammo

Recently picked up a Savage model 12 with a 1:7 barrel twist. My first experience with a twist that tight. So far, I've shot a couple hundred rounds through it, mostly 55 and 62 grain ballistic tip. Both seemed to shoot fine out to 300 yards, but I've read where the 55 grain don't work well in a twist that tight. Any advice on what ammo to try that won't break the bank?

The usable distance for the 223 is about 250 yards. After that they start to rapidly lose their accuracy as their bullet weight is just too light.

You'll want any to shoot as least 75 grain stuff for better accuracy at longer distances with that twist. I shoot 77 SMK out of my 1:7.7" krieger AR barrel and it shoots great. You might even be able to go up to the 90 grainers if you wanted with a 7" twist. I love savage rifles, good luck!
