    Hhheeeeelllllpppppppp!!!!

Just got my engine rebuilt. 2004 175 Johnson Carb. 1998 Hydra sports 196. Installed a 24 pitch Fury prop and took it for break in. Absolutely perfect until it got time for a WOT run. 4800 rpm 54.6 mph. I need to get the rpm up right? Please help! Jumps out of the hole, 42 mph at 4000 rpm. Boat feels like it's running faster than 54.6 but it's Gps so I know it's not. Handles perfectly just low Rpms.

sounds like a motor issue, are the carbs opening all the way at full throttle? Post this in the Evinrude/Johnson forum

Advance the throttle fully with motor OFF? Look at the butterflies and see if they all open completely.

What is your prop to pad and a 24 Fury is an awfully stiff prop for a 175 on a 19.5' boat I would think may wanna go down to a 23. Still you should get more than 4800 rpms if your tach is correct.

Could raising my motor help? My mechanic seems to think its a set up issue?

It may, whats your prop to pad measurement? Keep an eye on water pressure. Keep raising motor by 1/4'' until you loose WP or speed and then lower back down 1/4''.

Prop shaft is 4" Below pad. I think this may be too low?

Do you have a jack plate and if you do how much set back? If you don't have a plate you can't raise the motor any. 54.6 mph at 4800 rpm's is right on the money but I'd get a 24" Raker and give that boat some bow lift that a Fury 3 won't give it.

You can start raising it 1/4" at a time until you gain rpm's but not speed, lose water pressure or bow lift. I don't think the Fury will carry the bow high enough on that boat that's why I said look for a Raker. The 24 Fury turns like a 25" tempest so going to the 24 Raker should also gain you some rpm's along with some bow lift.

IF you are getting WOT and your timing roller is adjusted properly, I would start looking at setup as well.

Put the original 20p Raker that came with the boat on it this morning. Running WOT 5700 rpm and 53-54 mph. Something seems off.

Did you measure it like this making sure every thing was level? http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=62660 If you did then raise it up to 3 1/2" under and run it again using the fury.

Ran it again at 3.5" under pad with the 24 Fury. 5000 rpm WOT and 47 mph. ... What the heck is wrong!?

I was at Kerr today. It'll be a week or so before I can go back to the lake. Gotta work the next 5 days.

Next weekend work for you? I'm busy Saturday but could look at it later that afternoon or maybe on Sunday. Feel free to PM me and I'll send you my number. I used to have a Fast Strike which is very similar to your motor and know them well. I can also help you get it setup if that's the issue and have a known good prop to try on it if you have a flo-torq which you must cause you ran a fury.
