    SHO 20 HR Service

Coming up to my 20hr service. I have a question my manual states: Recommended gear oil grade: SAE 80W API GL-5 / SAE 90 API GL-5….So Can I use Quicksilver High Performance SAE 90 gear lube in my 250 SHO? Is it GL-5 rated?

Yep, I use Quicksilver 90W gear lube in my F150. It's available at my favorite source for motor oil--Walmart. I'd use Yamahalube's lower unit gear lube, but I'd have to order it online and it's not inexpensive stuff.

I've also been known to use Pennzoil's 85W-90W lower unit gear lube from Walmart--$5.50.

Been using Pennzoil's lower unit gear oil from Walmart in my 2004 F150 since it was new, zero problems.

Just a FYI, be sure whatever lube is being used meets manufactures spec FOR THE ENGINE. A 250 HP engine puts more of a load [obviously] than a 150. We learned the hard way on a 300HPDI. Tried running a bit longer that was specd in the service manual and the oil was black. Not a lot of time on it but the added HP degraded it quickly. CJ
