Changing the inline oil filter

When changing the in line oil filter, B75284001, is it necessary to completely drain the oil tank?
Manual says to use a container to capture the oil that will drain from the lines. Is that all the oil that might be in the tank ? If so, should I pump the level down before removing the old filter?
I am aware of the requirement to prime the pump after replacing the filter.

good idea to drain tank down, but not necessary to completely drain unless you want to clean inside
