    Hi,
i am planning a fishing and camping vacation on SmthMountain Lake Labor Day weekend. Never been here and looking for some suggestions on where to bass fish, productive techniques to try, etc.
thank you in advance for advice.

Shoot Ill bite. As stated boat traffic will be nuts. I like Beaverdam creek up the Roanoke arm. Baits to throw depend a lot on water clarity, down by the dam its very clean and up lake is usually stained. Topwater early and late and shakeyheads, dropshots, etc under docks mid day. Good luck. Beautiful Lake

I agree with this. Where are you camping? I prefer Hardy down to Beaver Dam Creek, lots of good spots and a lot less boat traffic than further down the lake. Night fishing is also another option to avoid the crowds.

We're camping at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Been looking forward to this trip for a while.

State park has some interesting features right there to fish. Don't have to drive far to catch some.
