    Question: how does 3D view display a big boulder on an otherwise flat bottom? would it show as the colored dots, or a raised bottom?

    Boulders and rock piles would show as a raised bottom.

    Think about it this way...The "dots" are "things" in the water column. Could be fish, tree limbs, debris, etc.

    3D is not a silver bullet - it's a great tool used in conjunction with Sonar, Side and/or Down.

    As we get more screen shots it will all make more sense and become easier to interpret

    I borrowed this picture from our Pro Staff Manager. It looks to me like he has it set to "depth". Deeper yellow and red changes to dark blue then light blue in shallower depths.
