1990 286 pro tournament running a 1999 mercury 175 efi 5 in manual jack plate 5400rpm at 55 with a 25 pitch prop . going to go down to a 23 and see how she does
Went out yesterday for a few hours and thought I would post some numbers.
1992 Sprint 286
1991 Evinrude 175XP
No Jackplate
24p Raker
Air and Water temps were both in the low 60's. Just me with 1/2 tank of fuel and all my fishing tackle with the livewell empty I was able to top out at 62.6 GPS. Back in the summer when I was tournament fishing with my brother who is 300+ lbs. and all his gear with livewell full and full fuel we were running between 53-54 GPS.
By myself the prop will hook great and lift the hull but with my brother and his gear I just can't seem to get the lift.
1992 Sprint 286 Pro Tournament
Evinrude 175XP
1992 sprint 286 tourney pro
150 mercury mariner mag 3
5500 rims
GPS 55 mph
fully loaded full fuel me and tourney partner
no jack plate no extras
6 inch jackplate may help that rig get close to 60 depending on health of engine and setup.....nothing wrong with what you got....The beauty of the 6 inch plate is you will not have to change steering cables or anything.
2000 sprint 270 90 hp johnson 60 degree 62mph by gps turning a 20 raker at 5800 rpm no jack plate.
'99 296 with Johnson 150. Top speed loaded 58ish
Nice, sounds set up well!
How's your holeshot
Who's holeshot?
I have one heck of a hole shot with the 23 pitch. I turning 5700 and running 65mph . Fully loaded full tank and 2 ppl
Going to repower my 2000 207DC with a Merc Pro XS 225 with the torque master lower!! Any suggestions on prop? I will post my speeds in a few weeks once its good and broke in.. Those extra CCs should help turn a bigger prop than my 225 super mag 2.5l can turn and get me up out of the water!!

The pro xs should give you a few more ponies to work with...what ever prop size you decide to go with, I'm running an Evinrude 250 with a bravo 1 26 p prop to 6000 rpms and excellent holeshot... I have a 28 p prop that won't launch me outta the hole like the 26 but has my rpm's down to 54-5600 rpms....thinking of repitching it to a 27.... The Mercs run a taller gear than Evinrude so you will be likely in the 24 26 pitch range???? I'm running a titus noseconed low water pickup ,with a pinned carrier in my rude....getting low 70's @ 1" below the pad fully loaded.
The Merc I am getting also has a low water and I was told that a 25P should be a good prop for it.. I would love to go with a 250 but the boat is only rated for 225.. How did you manage a 250?? Is you engine stock or worked?

It's stock....I was honest with my insurer and told them the engine was the same block, and map as my 225HO was...The block weights are the same. That pro xs should have you in the same hp class as my 250....
Got the new Merc 225 Pro XS with torque master lower on finally!! WOW what a HUGE difference.. Already got 71.5 at 5500 out of it turning a 25p Fury 3 blade.. The engine is still in break in mode so 5500 is the RPM limit... I will say I was chine walking at 71.5 but it will run a good 70 without CW.... I am looking forward to seeing what she will do with an extra 3-400 RPMs!! Its like a whole new boat... And when I say 70 thats loaded for fishing... Will update once I get a few more hours on the engine and get the break in limit off...

So an update to my topend .. Can get 72 consistently and have come real close to 75.. Had a little work done to the prop now around 73 for normal topend.. not bad hole shot either
