    Roger or Savage

Looking at a new semi-auto 17 hmr. Savage has a new heavy barrel model and so does Roger. Anyone have experience with either of these? Do they cycle well? I've got a bolt action savage heavy barrel and it shoots great. But, I'd like a semi-auto. I don't really like the 2-stage triggers on either version. But, I don't see any other options. Your input is appreciated.

I have the savage a17 with the standard barrel. The first 10 shots the trigger housing assembly broke and Savage repaired and sent back. I shot a 50yd 5 shot group with the cci a17 ammo that you can cover with a AA battery. It shoots and cycles great.

Yes. I was auto corrected. Ruger has a new semi auto target in a 17 HMR that looks pretty nice. Savage has one in the A17 with a thumbhole stock. I've got a bolt action savage that I put a Boyd's thumbhole stock on and it's very nice! But, there are times I've needed a follow up shot quicker than the bolt would allow.

Have you considered a Henry Varmit Express? Quick follow up shots and a really fun gun to just go out and shoot.

Don't like lever actions. Rather stick with my bolt action.

Fair enough. I haven't seen either of the heavy barreled rifles yet, I'll be looking for them now.
