    Need education on small tractors

Looking to get a small tractor for the property. Don't need it to mow but want something with a front loader and pto. The old Fords are popular here and about the right size, but I know nothing about if or how you can add a front loader? Anybody give me a rundown of what to look for and what not to look for for a hobby farm

You can add a loader to the old ones, but you usually need a PTO pump.

What do you want to use the tractor for? That will help you get the best info.

Pulling disk for food plot, blade for the driveway, and all sorts of things I can do with a front loader lol. Working wood and stumps etc.

A tractor is the wrong tool for a stump. Good way to die, especially on an older tractor with no ROPS.

    Any my idea of budget?

Budget depends. I am ok with an older tractor as long as i can get what i want and it is a good one. I am really looking for info so as I searchb I can make a good decision. What do i look for in capabilities to add a loader if one doesn't have a loader?

For a front end loader a plus is front wheel assist and I highly suggest one with a hydro transmission. I have 2 older fords a 641 and a 2000 they are used for the blade, plow and disk. I have a Mahindra 3510 with front loader it has hydro and used the most.

Just bite the bullet and get a Kubota, 30HP if you can afford it.

Like has already been said, 2wd tractor isn't the tool for stump removal. Small stumps can be taken out with a winch (and some hand digging) but big stumps call for an excavator.

This....get a 4wd Kubota in the 35 - 50hp range and you will be happy as a pig in slop! One of the few toys I've purchased in life and never regretted. Use mine all the time.

The question is what you mean by a small tractor. I worked 36 years in the T&E industry.

I consider small tractors to be compact tractors that are relatively high in horsepower but lightweight They are not great for digging stumps and many of their agloaders will barely pick up a full bucket of dirt. All compact tractors are not created equal, and who knows which brands will be in business in 10 years--for parts availability. The brands thought to be great are often no so good.

For doing hard work, there's no replacement for an old generation cast iron tractor. They have the guts to bust thru mounds of dirt, lift heavy loads and pull up stumps. They will last long enough that your great grandchildren will be using it (with proper maintenance.). Examples are Ford/NH 3910 or 3930's, Case C50, various Massey Ferguson and John Deere models.

    Good luck in your search.

That's looks like a lawn mower pretending to be a tractor.
