anyone here take advantage of that event? If so what did you trade in? If it was to come back how many here would have something that they would trade today and what is it?

I'd probably trade my 98 2dr Tahoe that I don't drive anymore.
LOL This is not going the way I was hoping for. But I am having a laugh like the rest of you.
I don't see cash for clunkers coming back for any reason. I had an old minivan I tried to get in on that deal with but for some reason it wouldn't qualify.
Salvage yards and the small used car dealers are the ones that lost out on that deal.
c4c really hurt two groups badly. The Used car market as a whole, and especially low income groups. It has directly led to the massive uptick in subprime used car loans (which are high interest and defaulting at a high rate), due to the fact it removed roadworthy cars under 5k which were obtainable for the working poor.
take it a step further and it harmed the salvage business and the vast majority had to have the engines locked up as part of the deal.
c4c was an awful program, and should never be considered anything else.
But Cash 4 Clunkers was good for the environment.
I saw some really good trucks and cars that I hated to see being traded, especially knowing there out come
89 Ranger 360v/05 Optimax 200
Had a couple friends but old 4WD junkers and trade them in for Max money.
Cash for Clunkers was a failure and to answer your question: no way I would let someone murder any of my old vehicles. I remember one mechanic on the news performing euthanasia on a car and the whole time he was lamenting that it was a perfectly good vehicle that could have helped someone.
My buddy took advantage of it. He had an old jeep that had something seriously wrong with it, I can't remember what it was, just that it would hardly run. One of the rules was you had to drive onto the lot for it to qualify. So they towed it up to the dealership, parked in the parking lot next door and drove the jeep the 20 feet to the dealership and traded it in.
Cash for clunkers was the biggest waste and joke of a program ever.
look at the price of used cars today.
And--- The ones that thought it was for the people--- and it was a great program, are now looking to replace that car they purchased with the C4C money. And they are finding out prices of used cars today are ridiculous, but you will never convince them that without older reliable vehicles, the prices of vehicles have went sky high.
