    98-99 Evinrude water pump ?

I am posting for a friend; They are trying to drop the lower unit on a 98ish Johnson 150, and feel that there must be a linkage or something that is not allowing LU to come off? Any of you change a water pump on this model? What is holding it on after all 4 bolts are loose? Any tips or info would be appreciated!

    Thanks...Mick

You should find that removing the port side cowling pan will give you easy access to the shift linkage screw.

Sure you could do that, but it would be much easier to shift it to forward, pull the clevis/hitch pin on the shift rod and push it to the left this would probably release the shift pin. and there is a sticky on the top of the forum how to perform the replacement.
