4 Stroke!!
Technology from their race car engines! Valve train built to run over 6K rpm!! 6400 max for the BF250 but designed for much more!
Better oils and metals!!

Motor looks good Jeff. You will see many hours on the we motors at all different rpm ranges with no problems. I usually run mine to 6-6100 for a few min every trip. If I'm not in a hurry 4500-5000 is my normal rpm range. I have around 100 hrs on mine so far.

Not a reason why, but what a Honda owner shared with me. 2001 225 hp on a saltwater boat, over 4000 hrs on the engine and had zero issues!
wow!

Yeah, WOW. I wish Honda would use some their technology to make a 200, 225 and 250hp run with the Yamaha SHOs. With their reputations of reliability and durability, I think they would quickly own the 4-stroke bass boat market. I know I would buy.
Sure they are fine motors, but Yamaha ate them alive when they came into the retail market in 1985 and 1986.
One problem is a general lack of dealers in many parts of North America.
The question is how many of the SHO are making it past the 300 hour mark??
If I was buying a new boat to keep many years and not concerned with resale it would have a F series Yamaha, Honda or Suzuki. The fact is, bass boats with a Mercury or Sho seem to sell faster. It all depends what someone is after for performance. Personally I'd take a motor that has top notch, proven reliability to give up 5mph on top end speed. I don't tournament fish and rarely run my boat over 5000 rpms. That said my last two motors have been Mercurys and the only issue I've had in the last 8 years is the oil pump went out on my 175EFI. Though I put less hours on my motors per year than most
I've been running a 1994 150 hp Mariner since 1999, GREAT ENGINE, no problems, general maintenance. It's on a HEAVY hulled procraft 180 pro. Not a fast boat, mid 50s on its best day, great in rough water. Lack of speed has not prevented me from winning tournaments when I use to fish tournaments.....anyway, I need a reliable motor, my next and last boat I buy will have a Honda on it.

I plan on replacing the boat one day and transferring the motor. I see my old boat falling apart before the Honda gives up.

I have been selling boats since 2001 with Honda Outboards. I have had zero issues selling the boats. Typically, the Honda is a plus.
I'm having issues selling my Honda BF250 right now...Please let me know if you know anyone who wants one...Thanks Ray!
HondaRay, just what brand boats you sell with Honda outboards. When Charger gets the new Elite 198 perfected and starts producing them, (heard next year), I'm seriously looking at getting one with maybe a Honda 225 or a 225 SHO. If the Honda could run even remotely close to the SHO, it would be done deal. Thanks.
It is a shame they don't have a better dealer base. They are few and far between.
It won't run with the SHO...I had a 250 SHO on my X21 and it ran 72-73 in the summer time....I swapped to a Honda BF250 and it would only run 63-64...Same load...Same conditions...I tried three different props with the Honda as well. The SHO is a high output motor...It is really producing upwards of 270 HP...I believe the Honda is a weak 250 and is definitely not a high output motor...I would like to see a HP/RPM graph comparing the Honda to the SHO. The lower unit ratio and design of the lower unit doesn't help either. If you buy a Honda you shouldn't be buying it for top end speed.
I repowered with a 250 G2 HO and am seeing 72-73 again with my X21...Night and day difference...
You already know...We have had this discussion...
No magic propping will put the motor in the same league as the SHO/Pro XS/G2/Suzuki...I'm sure I could have found one that gained 1-2-3 more mph on top...That's quite possible but even the Honda tech they were going to send down to help with my situation told me I'd be looking at 66 mph according to their software.
Didn't recall if you ever tried the Fury or Tempest in a 24 or 25.
