    Rebuild or replace trim/tilt motor??

    '01 Merc 200 EFI

Found oil slick behind boat last week and water mixed with oil in the trim unit. I assume the seals/o-rings have gone bad

Anyone have a preference - replace or rebuild? Expensive little buggers, aren't they?

I'm fairly handy, but have never rebuilt a cylinder before.

Based on my experience with a trim motor leak, you will need to determine of the shaft is nicked/damaged causing the seal to tear and leak.
If there are nicks, etc. a rebuild probably will fail soon.

Had to purchase a new one for my 275 Verado. With labor and parts was $700.

Mine is at the shop right now for the exact same problem. They originally thought it was just the seals, but the shaft is damaged and needs to be replaced.
