    Weeds and prop tip

Fishing in the backwaters and navigating all day around the moss mats and weed beds was productive and made for a decent day of catching bass. When time to head in came around, we throttled down and rose on plane normally ....
then, the tach jumped suddenly to over 5,500 and the motor needed to be slowed immediately. What the heck! Tried again -same deal. I'm thinking that somehow, someway the prop got spun. Carefully, we did get up on plane and trailer the boat.
We do carry a spare hub so pulled the old one and it looked perfect - at the same time we had to remove a big tangle of grass from the prop shaft. It turns out that the grass was the culprit and we didn't realize it until we broke down the prop. So,
the moral of the story is when you trailer your boat - if you've been fishing in that kind of water - check that your prop shaft is clean to avoid creating problems blocking the air and water flow around your prop .... just sayin'.
